Local outdoors group teaching kids camping techniques
JOPLIN, Mo. – The wildcat glades is teaching Joplin youth about the basics of camping.
The group held their monthly nature explorers program earlier today at the wildcat glades pavilion in Joplin.
The program taught kids what they need to know to survive in the outdoors. They were taught skills like how to choose a campsite and how to set up a tent.
“You kind of just plant a seed in the brain now and then you know if they ever do go outside they can be thinking about what type of water they should be nearby, what type of food that they should bring, maybe just starting them out being more prepared for when they get older,” said Lauren Copple with the Wildcat Glades friends group.
The group says their next classes will be Monday through Friday the week leading up to the Shoal Creek water festival.
