Local brewery is excited to welcome college students back as customers and staff
Drop the H in Pittsburg sees increase in business as students comeback to campus
PITTSBURG, Kan. – Like many businesses across the nation, Drop the H Brewing Company was hit hard because by the pandemic.
“First week in March, for example, through the third week the drop was about 50%. By the first week in April — that had gone down, once we were closed by the state to about 20% of what our original revenues were,” says Drop the H owner, Mark McClain.
As students return to Pittsburg State for the fall semester McClain is excited to have them back as customers and staff.
“When the student body is back in session, it brings a certain vibrancy along with it, which is welcome. And speaking for us, as a business, a number of pizza creators and staff are college students. They’ve been with us since the beginning. It’s great to have them back and working. So it’s a win all around,” adds McClain.
Jene’t Campbell is a student at Pitt State and an employee at Drop the H. She says it’s great to be around others, but they still need to take precautions.
“It’s nice to go out and do stuff with your friends and people who you enjoy being around, so I definitely appreciate the opportunity to actually get out into the world,” says Campbell.
Drop the H is making sure to keep all patrons and employees safe by complying with all regulatory guidance they are required to — to make sure the environment is clean.
“We depend on our customers to keep their distance and to keep their mask on just like they depend on us to do the exact same thing and you know, handle their food and everything with care,” says Campbell.
“I think customers, if they’re not feeling 100% healthy are staying home. And when they do feel healthy and want to go out and be with their family or friends then I am glad we are able to provide that venue for them,” adds McClain.
Drop the H Brewing Company is open Tuesday-Sunday in Pittsburg with craft beers brewed on-site.
