Lightning strike ruled cause of house fire in Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin Fire Department says the cause of an early morning house fire was ruled as a lightning strike.

On Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at 7:24 a.m., firefighters responded to a report of a possible structure fire at 1815 S Moffet Ave.

The first crew arrived at 7:32 a.m. and found a home with smoke and flame showing. Firefighters went inside the home and extinguished the fire. They remained on scene until 9:39 a.m.

The Joplin Fire Department responded with 6 units and 16 personnel. The Fire Department was assisted by METS Ambulance Service and the Joplin Police Department. There were no injuries to residents or firefighting personnel.

The cause of the fire was ruled as a lightning strike.
