KANSAS (KOAM) - It's coming... Sunflower Summer in Kansas... and it's free!
The program starts May 26 and runs through August 13, 2023. It gives Kansas families a variety of ways to get out and explore something new or enjoy time together for free.
Kansas residents with students enrolled in Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to access 1 free ticket per child to the 90 attractions, museums, zoos, and more.
Parents and legal guardians, which sometimes includes grandparents, can create a Sunflower Summer app account that includes their children. Once the adult account is created, the children are added. This becomes the family account.
"We know that social interaction and exposure to a variety of activities support healthy development. Sunflower Summer is an experiential approach to learning that can support the transition of school-aged children into the fall school term." - Kansas Department of Education
The program includes Kansas Art and Theater, Nature Areas, Attractions and Landmarks, Libraries, History, Day Camps and Bonus Events.
This program is put on by the State of Kansas Department of Education. Funding for the website application were developed under a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
