Lavern L. Drapal

December 14, 1934 - March 19, 2020

Lavern L. Drapal, 85, of Parsons, passed away at 11:09 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society in Parsons.

Lavern Lee Drapal was born on December 14, 1934, to Peter and Helen M. (Havel) Drapal, Jr. in Cuba, Kansas. As a young boy, he grew up on the family farm and attended school in the Cuba area. Following graduating from high school, Lavern earned a bachelor’s degree from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. He then earned a Master’s degree in science from Emporia State Teachers College.

After teaching for one year at Belleville High School, Lavern was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army. While he was stationed at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama, he was an instructor. Upon his discharge, he returned to central Kansas to teach high school in Galva and junior high school in McPherson for five years. He then moved to Wichita and taught math and science at West and North High Schools until his retirement.

He was a member of the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association. Lavern enjoyed gardening and art. He was a very good artist and even started and taught an art class at Good Samaritan Society.

On April 13, 1957, he and Doloris N. Bruntzel were married in Rush Center, Kansas. She survives of the home.

One Sister: Virginia Bishop of Valley Center, Kansas

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
