Latest updated blog – Warming up some for Tuesday – Nick

Rain chances still lining up down the road

Good Monday evening, everyone. Today was one of those days where temperatures couldn’t really go anywhere. We went from the 70s on Saturday to upper 50s for early Sunday morning to temperatures holding steady in the 40s as the new work/school week got underway.

We definitely stayed cool across the entire area today as the clouds held tight and the wind kept coming out of the northeast. The surface setup shows that while our front is still parked to our south, we have high pressure over northern Wisconsin keeping the northeast breeze in place. While we were able to get a little break in the rain chances this afternoon and earlier this evening, moisture over the region will keep the clouds in place for tonight.

As we head into Tuesday, the front will actually start to return as a warm front. Combine that with a still active jet stream setup showing more waves lining up, the rain chances will continue to line up as we continue on our roller coaster ride of temperatures.

Running through the rest of the night and into our Tuesday morning, everyone will deal with cloudy skies and temperatures starting out in the middle 40s. Some areas will start the overnight out with some areas of drizzle and some areas of fog. As we get closer to sunrise Tuesday morning, temperatures will warm up a little as some scattered showers try to develop over parts of the area.

As the front continues to lift to the north, we’ll get our south wind back to help warm things up once again. Even with mostly cloudy skies in place for much of the day, and additional rain chances by late afternoon, we should see afternoon highs much warmer compared to the past few days. We’re expecting highs to top back out in the middle 60s around Joplin with everyone else ranging between the lower and middle 60s.

As the warm front itself starts working over the area for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, we’ll have another round of more widespread rain and t-storms developing on top of us. With this returning front and rain chances in the works, this will only allow temperatures to drop off into the upper 50s to start Wednesday morning out.

Even though we’ll have to start Wednesday out with mostly cloudy skies and a round of rain and t-storms, the warm front will continue to lift to our north as we head into the afternoon. As it does, it will temporarily take the rain chances out of the picture and bring partly sunny skies back in play. With that and a continued south wind, we’re expecting highs to climb back into the middle to upper 70s.

For Thursday, we’ll have partly sunny skies and highs back in the lower to middle 80s. Thursday will be the pick day for any outdoor plans because the front will return once again as we work into Friday. Not only will temperatures on Friday top out early in the upper 50s and steadily drop throughout the day, we’ll have the front bring the clouds and rain chances back in.

Even with a dry Saturday lined up, we’ll keep mostly cloudy skies in place with highs back in the upper 50s. For Sunday and Monday, look at what wants to return.

Another wave will be eager to bring rain chances back in for Sunday and Monday as we head into the final week of October. Once we get into the middle of next week, we could see temperatures cool down quite a bit. To see how Halloween is shaping up and how we look going into November, Doug has you covered with his long range forecast down below. Have a good night and a great Tuesday!

October 25th-31st: Rain chances back in on Sunday and Monday with cool temperatures.  Mild temperatures for the rest of the work week and mainly dry until a storm system moves in on Friday and Saturday.  This will give us rain chances with cooler temperatures.  Hopefully any rain will be out by Halloween evening.

November 1st-7th:  A cool start to the week with mild temperatures returning by the middle of the week.  Rain chances on Wednesday and Thursday, this will bring chilly temps again for the rest of the week.

November 8th-14th:  Mild temperatures return early in the week with rain no Tuesday and Wednesday.  This will be cold and dry conditions the rest of the week.

November 15th-21st:  Mainly a cool wee with rain chances on Tuesday and Thursday.  Warming up a bit by the weekend.
