Latest updated blog – Quick wave passing through today – Nick

Cool week lined up with another system to watch closely

Good early Sunday morning, everyone. As far as weather goes, our Thanksgiving weekend has been a good one for us so far. After enjoying a mild Thanksgiving, we did see temperatures for our Friday and Saturday turn chilly once again. After each cold start in the morning, though, we did take advantage of some sunshine and bring highs back into the middle 50s for the past few days.

As we look ahead to wrap up the holiday weekend on our Sunday, we head to the surface map to see what’s around or heading our way. While we can get another day with highs around 50 for Sunday, we do see our next cold front ready to work in from the north. This will set the stage for a cool end to November and a cool start to our December.

Before it works in, we had cloud cover pick up yesterday afternoon and into last night. That’s due to an upper-level wave working across the Texas/Oklahoma border. While this wave will pass just to our south, it will be in control of our weather setup for today.

One thing that’s nice about this upper-level wave passing by is the cloud cover for all and scattered showers for some as we get the morning started. This actually helps keep us from falling back into the middle to upper 20s like we saw on Saturday morning. However, it will still be a cold start with lows holding in the upper 30s.

This wave will keep mostly cloudy skies around and some scattered showers for a good portion of the day. While this wave has the better rainfall and moisture off to our south, we can’t rule out some spots seeing a tenth (maybe two tenths) of an inch before the wave starts to move on late this afternoon. Despite that and an eventual northwest wind kicking in, we should go from a cold start to highs around 50 degrees for today.

Once this wave passes and the northwest wind kicks in behind the cold front that’ll work in from the north, that will set the stage for a new week with cold morning and mainly cool afternoons. That starts with a cold morning under mostly clear skies. This setup will send lows back into the upper 20 across the region.

While we’re expecting mostly sunny skies for Monday afternoon, we’ll have the northwest wind keeps us quite cool as we start the new work/school week. Plan on afternoon highs topping out in the lower to middle 40s.

Heading into Tuesday, we’ll see some partly sunny skies return as we stay dry once again. Temperatures will start in the upper 20s again in the morning before we head back into the upper 40s for the afternoon. While we enjoy a quiet Tuesday, our eyes will be focused on the next storm system that will come out of Colorado.

While this system fits perfectly within Doug’s pattern, the jury still seems to be out if this wave will have enough moisture to work with as it starts working in by Wednesday. Given how some moisture will at least try to work in with this system, we’ll see skies turn mostly cloudy for Wednesday. With temperatures topping out in the middle 40s for the afternoon, we could see rain chances start to work in.

By the time we head into Thursday and Friday, this wave will continue to work over us. If enough moisture is in place, it will work with temperatures that will be cold enough to see a rain/snow mix for Thursday and for this system to end as some snow chances for Friday morning.

Once this system clears out, we’ll turn mostly sunny and warm up a little for Saturday. Sticking with Doug’s pattern, we’ll see another system by next Sunday as we start the week of December 6th out. To see how we look for most of December, Doug has you covered with his long range forecast down below. Have a great Sunday!

December 6th-12th:  A mild start with rain chances on Sunday and Monday.  This system could end with some wintry weather on Tuesday with colder air working in.  Staying cool most of the week.  Our next system rolls in on Friday and Saturday with rain, ice and snow chances.

December 13th-19th:  A cool start with rain or snow chances on Sunday.  The rest of the week mainly cool and dry.

December 20th-26th:  Mainly a mild week into Christmas.  However, rain chances increasing through the week and colder air working in late in the week, so let’s see!
