Latest updated blog – Hot and humid Wednesday lined up – Nick
A bit of a break from the heat this weekend
Good Wednesday morning, everyone. Our hot and humid setup will continue once again today courtesy of the upper-level ridge in control across the central part of the country. One thing we will note is the upper-level low to the northwest that fired off strong to severe t-storms up in Nebraska late last night and into this morning.
Everyone is starting off warm and muggy this morning with lows in the upper 70s.
We mentioned the t-storms up in Nebraska that developed last night for a reason. Those t-storms will continue to march southeast through the morning. There’s a chance some of those t-storms could clip some of our northern and eastern counties. We’ll keep an eye on those as we work through the rest of the morning.
With another hot and humid day on tap with partly sunny skies, we’ll see if any outflow boundaries from the AM storms can fire up a few t-storms in our area for this afternoon. Otherwise, we’ll be hot once again with highs pushing into the middle to upper 90s.
Not only will the thermometer say it’ll be hot for the afternoon, dew points near 70 degrees will make it feel quite a bit hotter. Heat indices will easily be in the triple digits for the afternoon making it feel like 105 to 110 degrees.
As we stay warm for this evening and heading into early Thursday morning, we’ll keep an eye out for scattered t-storms across parts of the area under partly cloudy skies.
Even with the scattered t-storms chances to take us into Thursday morning, we’ll still have a warm and muggy morning lined up with lows dropping back into the middle 70s.
With another weak disturbance clipping us for Thursday, the heat and humidity under partly sunny skies will allow for some scattered t-storms to pop up during the afternoon. Despite that, we’ll stay hot with highs in the middle to upper 90s.
Combine those highs with the expected humidity for Thursday, it’ll feel like the triple digits once again for the afternoon with heat indices as high as 105.
For the holiday weekend ahead of us, we’re still expecting the ridge to retrograde and slide back to the west. With a few weak waves wanting to ride around the ridge and head our way, we’ll still hold on to some rain chances for the holiday weekend. Plus, we’ll see a bit of the heat start to back off for the holiday coming up. For Friday, we’re just looking at typical random pop-up t-storms during another hot and humid day with highs back in the lower 90s.
For the 4th on Saturday, another wave will ride around the ridge and give us some isolated t-storms for the afternoon and early evening. Even with that wave, we’ll still keep things on the hot side with highs right around 90.
The main center of the ridge will stay to our west as we head toward Sunday and early next week. That will keep some isolated t-storms in the forecast under partly sunny skies with highs in the lower 90s. If you’re curious as to how the rest of July is shaping up, Doug has you covered with his long range forecast down below.
Have a great Wednesday!
