3rd suspect in Riverton robbery and assault enters no contest plea
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan. – A Carthage man today pleaded no contest to aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.
Brandonly Hernandez, 20, is the last of three suspects to be sentenced for the robbery and assault of a Riverton, Kansas man.
As part of the plea deal, the prosecution dropped a charge of aggravated kidnapping against Hernandez. The Cherokee County Attorney says he’s agreed to recommend probation for Hernandez at the request of the victim’s mother.
The crime happened in May 2019. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the men reportedly met under the pretense of buying an item the victim had advertised for sale online.
“The victim got into the suspects’ vehicle to show the potential buyers the item, which is when the men left with the victim, refusing to stop. They are alleged to have then driven the victim to a nearby parking lot where they physically beat the victim and stole property, including electronics, a watch and shoes,” the Sheriff’s Office released at the time.
Rodolfo Castro Sanchez and William Thomas Wilson, both from Carthage, have already been sentenced. They were given probation time.
