Lafayette House celebrates 35 years in the Four States
The Lafayette House in Joplin is celebrating 35 years in the Four States.
Mayor Melodee Colbert Kean joined the non-profit and members from the community to celebrate the anniversary on Friday.
Lafayette House was founded in 1978 by a volunteer group to respond to domestic violence victims’ need for somewhere safe to stay.
Today the organization serves 1,500 individuals every year.
“It has been very rewarding to see the number of women and children who have come through our doors to tale some time to revisit what some of those successes have been,” says Louise Secker of Lafayette House.
Friday’s event was also in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
