Labette County prepares for the 2019 season

Grizzlies finished 4-5 last year

The Labette County Grizzlies went 4-5 last year, finishing under .500 for the first time since 2015.

The Grizzlies will be without quarterback Easton Dean, who is currently at DI Iowa State, but they bring back experience from the previous season with 8 returning starters.

Labette County will need to rely on some of those older guys, especially with a tough schedule to start the year. The Grizzlies are set to open the season this Friday, hosting former SEK rival, Pittsburg. Labette County then goes on the road for the following three-straight weeks.

“Having Pittsburg here, obviously, they’re a great program so right off the bat we get them and see where we’re at. It’s still a process even though every game counts now. You got to get better each week, and we expect to do that. And we got the type of kids that will get better each week. They’ll work hard,” says head coach Sean Price.

“Pittsburg, they’re one of the highest ranked schools you can play in southeast Kansas, so I think it’s a big privilege for us. Get better our first game,” adds senior Caleb Haggard.
