JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin City Council votes in favor of an emergency ordinance for a contract between the city and a cyber security firm based in Kansas City. In July, the city of Joplin was the victim of a cyber attack. The city manager directed city staff to get bids from various companies to strengthen the city’s cyber security position. Among the 11 bidders, Raven-Eye, LLC of Kansas City had the winning bid. Raven-Eye will be responsible for co-managing network security for the city and upgrading current network security systems. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Highway Patrol releases some statistics from the labor day weekend. Authorities say there were three-hundred-51 vehicle accidents over the holiday weekend, with one-hundred-three injuries and seven fatalities. When it comes to people on the water, there were seven reported boating accidents, with four injuries and one death. There were no reported drownings over the weekend.
NEOSHO, Mo. – An openly gay teacher resigns from the Neosho School District after being asked to sign a letter promising to not talk about his sexuality. John Wallis, a teacher at Neosho Junior High started the school year with two items above his whiteboard, a pride flag, and a sign reading “In this classroom, everyone is welcome”. After receiving complaints from parents, he says he was instructed to take both items out of his classroom, or face being fired.
JOPLIN, Mo. – Joplin’s Arvest Bank is honoring teachers through its “We Love Teachers” campaign and its looking for nominees. The campaign awards 154 teachers with $500 gifts. It’s a total of $77-thousand in prize money. That money is spent on classroom needs for public school teachers. To nominate a teacher, just go to the Arvest Bank Facebook page and look for the “We Love Teachers” post between September 13th and 19th.
