JOPLIN HOUSE FIRE INVESTIGATION
JOPLIN, Mo. – Authorities now say Wednesday night’s house fire in Joplin is considered incendiary and is under investigation by the Joplin Police Department. The fire broke out just before 7:00pm at 301 South Pearl Avenue. One of the four adults in the house at the time of the fire was taken to the burn center in Springfield and a firefighter was injured due to an explosion but was treated at the scene and released.

AMBULANCE SERVICE CONTRACT
FORT SCOTT, Kan. – Officials in Bourbon County, Kansas have signed a contract with the Fort Scott Fire Department for ambulance services. Mercy currently runs the service, but its contract ends on March 31st. The fire department will house the equipment and provide personnel and the county will pay for and oversee the new service. The new service will start April 1, 2019.

NEW KANSAS DCF GAMEPLAN
TOPEKA, Kan. – The Kansas Department for Children and Families outlined plans to address issues in the state’s foster care system that led to a civil lawsuit. A new DCF plan divides the states foster care system into eight regions with one agency in each awarded a grant to oversee the area. The new system also should keep children closer to their blood relatives.

NO KEVIN HART APOLOGY
LOS ANGELES – Comedian Kevin Hart is stepping down as Oscars host. He made the announcement on Twitter last night two days after he was chosen for the role. His emcee role came under scrutiny after some of his old anti-gay tweets resurfaced. And earlier yesterday, Hart said the academy asked him to apologize for the tweets or quit. He said he passed on the apology because he had already addressed the issue.

AMBASSADOR PICK
WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Trump has reportedly chosen Heather Nauert to be the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Nauert has spent the last two years as the State department’s spokeswoman. Prior to that, she was a reporter and host for the Fox News Channel. If confirmed by the Senate, Nauert will replace Nikki Haley at the U.N. The former South Carolina governor is stepping down at the end of the year.
