KOAM Morning News to Know 1-14

JOPLIN, Mo. – Joplin police conduct an investigation, after an assault case turns into a homicide. Just before 7:00pm Friday night, JPD responded to a call at Third and Connor where a man was found lying in the road after being assaulted. The victim, 27-year old Shawn Rockers of Joplin, was taken to Freeman Hospital where he later died from his injuries. An autopsy has been scheduled today in Springfield. No arrests have been made at this time.

JOPLIN, Mo. – Police respond to an armed robbery at Rapid Roberts gas station in Joplin. JPD received a call just before 9:00pm Sunday evening, where a man robbed the Subway and convenience store just off Highway 43 before fleeing from the scene. We don’t know how much money was taken from the register, as the investigation is on-going and police are still searching for the suspect. No one was injured in this incident.

CARTHAGE, Mo. – The Carthage Humane Society is creating a new medical area for animals with contagious diseases. Once it’s complete, it will provide a place away from the main building to separate sick dogs and cats that have diseases like parvo or respiratory infections. Shelter Director Deborah Bell expects the new wing to be complete in the next six weeks.

WASHINGTON – It’s day 24 of the partial government shutdown…and still, no end in sight. Both sides remain deadlocked over funding a border wall. President Trump heads to New Orleans Monday. He’ll speak to the American Farm Bureau about the shutdown, as well as the ongoing trade negotiations with China.
