KU suspends all athletics events indefinitely
Kansas is projected to be the #1 overall seed in next week's NCAA tournament.
CLARIFICATION UPDATE: Indefinitely suspending events and travel does NOT mean KU has pulled out of the NCAA tournament.
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas University Athletic Director Jeff Long released a statement on Thursday afternoon, saying in part, “We have canceled all athletic travel indefinitely.”
You can read the full statement below:
“Our highest priority at Kansas Athletics is to ensure the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and staff. Based on the recommendation of our medical professionals, we have canceled all athletic travel indefinitely. In addition, all home and away athletics events have been suspended indefinitely. We will continue to monitor the situation and determine the next appropriate steps based on advice from our medical team.”
The KU men’s basketball team is currently ranked #1 in the nation, and is projected to be the #1 overall seed in next week’s NCAA tournament. However, if the tournament still proceeds as scheduled, it does not appear the Jayhawks will be participating at this time.
