K9 Ronin Joins The Joplin Police Department

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin Police Department welcomes Ronin, the latest K9 to join the JPD family.

Ronin is a 14-month-old German Shepherd. He came from Poland through FMK9 in Michigan. FMK9 trains canines for law enforcement, government and private security.

Officer Benjamin Eckels will be Ronin’s handler. Following extensive training, the police department recently selected Eckels to be the next K9 officer. He and Ronin will be undergoing extensive training over the next several months through Patriot K9 Training. That’s according to the Joplin Police Department.

After that, Ronin will be certified in narcotics detection and suspect apprehension.
