Joplin’s VFW Post 534 is talkin’ turkey
JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin’s VFW Post 534 hosted a turkey shoot Sunday to help raise money for Christmas baskets.
The VFW holds turkey shoots every Sunday starting in October, and they go until December 8th. It’s three dollars a shot card and one dollar splatter cards.
The VFW is partnered with the Joplin Eagles who also hold turkey shoots to help raise money. They have been doing this fundraiser for decades to raise cash for Christmas baskets and food for veteran families during the holidays.
“We would much rather be able to give them enough food that they have leftovers, or they don’t have to cook at all for that meal, and maybe last them for the rest of the week or something like that. The more money we raise, the more likely we’re able to do that,” said Post Commander Bruce Redden.
The post does not have a set fundraising goal. Members say they just want to help as many veteran families as they can.
