Members from Joplin’s “Long-Term Recovery Committee” celebrate their hard work together assisting residents in the aftermath of the Joplin May 20-11 tornado.

The committee was made up of a hundreds of agencies, non-profits, and community partners who a month after the tornado provided assistance to survivors. The group stayed together for 3 years, and disbanded about 2 years ago. Today they were celebrating their accomplishments and how far Joplin has come in a family reunion of sorts at city hall.

LTRC Co-Chair Stephanie Brady says “We were just very cohesive. We worked together. We worked really, really well together and we didn’t become territorial. Our group was just a positive force in the community and I’d say that’s what I’m most proud of.”

Brady also told us the relationships and community partnerships made during the tornado were invaluable and vital in the event of another natural disaster.
