Joplin woman sentenced after dog attack leads to pony being euthanized
JOPLIN, Mo. — A Missouri woman has been fined and given probation after her dog severely mauled a prized pony in Joplin. The pony, Gunther, had to be euthanized.
Taylor Harris was fined $500 for an aggressive dog, $50 each for two dogs not having rabies shots or a city license and another $500 in restitution. She was also placed on probation after pleading guilty to allowing a dog to run at large, according to the Associated Press.
The incident happened on June 19th, 2019.
The pony was a retired Ringling Brothers pony. Another miniature pony and two regular-sized horses were also in the pasture, but suffered less serious injuries.
According to the Associated Press, City Prosecutor Joe Crosthwait says Harris’ dog, which appeared to be a pit bull mix, was surrendered and euthanized.
