Joplin teen killed in crash near Grand Falls

Sgt Andy Blair says the Joplin Police Major Crash Team is investigating
Deer Drive and Dove Drive the location of a crash where a Joplin teen was killed late Saturday night, October 15, 2022.

UPDATE: Joplin Schools release the identity of the young man who died of injuries over the weekend with a statement:

Eagle Nation, With great sorrow, we must report that over the weekend, JHS Junior Kylar Olmstead died in an automobile accident. Counselors and administrators at the high school will be available to speak to and provide resources for students, family, and staff as needed while they process this event.

“We are very saddened by the loss of Kylar,” said Joplin High School Principal Dr. Steve Gilbreth. “He was a fine young man, and he will be missed by his high school family. Our prayers go out to his family and friends while they work through this sudden loss.”

— Sgt Andy Blair of the Joplin Police Dept confirms with us that Saturday night, October 15, 2022 a fatal crash occurred where a Joplin teen was killed.

The crash occurred at 11:21 p.m. near the intersection of Deer Drive and Dove Drive south of Grand Falls.


Sgt Blair says it was a single vehicle crash.

The 1994 black Honda Civic vehicle had four occupants.

Two occupants had been ejected from the vehicle, they were both rushed to Joplin hospitals. One sustained moderate injury and one was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Two other occupants had minor injuries.

“No identification information is being released at this time pending further investigation,” Sgt Blair states in a media release.

All occupants were juveniles.

The Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team is actively working the investigation.
