UPDATE: Joplin shooting determined to be accident

Update from Joplin Police Department: The subject with the gunshot wound is being treated at a local hospital. The investigation has determined the shooting to be an accidental self inflicted gunshot.


JOPLIN, Mo. – Joplin police investigate after finding a man with a gunshot wound.

On May 20, 2020, around 11:21 a.m., the Joplin Police Department sent officers to North Street and School Avenue for a report of a shooting. They got there and found an adult male with a gunshot wound. EMS took him to a local hospital for treatment.

Detectives are investigating the incident. According to Captain Jimenez, they are not seeking any suspects at this time connected to the shooting.
