JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin School District hopes to broaden its range of applicants for paraprofessionals thanks to a new certification path from the State of Missouri.

Previous certificates required 60 hours of online schooling, however, the new certification only requires 20 hours of online training.

“Currently, in our district, we have a significant number of vacancies for paraprofessionals, and paraprofessionals are individuals who work in classrooms alongside teachers to support the learning of students with disabilities,” said Director of Special Education, Megan Klosterman.

The school district is actively seeking to hire 31 para-professionals for the upcoming school year.
