Joplin School Board hears final details of plan to return to school

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin School District held a board meeting tonight to hear more details on their plan to return to school on August 13th.

The Joplin School District presented a more in-depth version of their “A Day In The Life Of An Eagle Plan”, the plan to get students back to school. While it doesn’t make any specific changes, it does clarify things like contact tracing and cleaning. Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services Sarah Mwangi says “We will have frequent disinfecting throughout the day, but then we also will be deep cleaning every evening with our night crew to make sure that the next morning everything has been disinfected ready to go for the next day.”

It also laid out details on the virtual learning option which will be offered to students who are not coming back to campus. “The full virtual option is…a full curriculum, it’s online, it’s self-paced but there will be targets that students have to meet.”

However, officials want everyone to know, things could change at a moment’s notice. “As everyone knows this is a very fluid situation, it seems you know, new guidance comes out frequently, so what we have attempted to do is make the safest decisions we can for our staff and our students while also making sure that we’re providing a high quality education for our students.”

Mwangi says they’re full prepared for whatever the school year holds.

District officials have released all the details, including virtual enrollment options, on the Joplin Schools website.
