Joplin resident gets prison time for child molestation
JOPLIN, Mo. — A Joplin man enters a plea deal and will serve 25 years in prison for child molestation.
Authorities say James Myers sexually assaulted several children as far back as 2007. Myers pleaded guilty to five counts of Class A Felony first degree child molestation and one count of Class B Felony first degree child molestation.
He will serve 25 years in prison without parole.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office had been working with several agencies on a months-long investigation into allegations against Myers. (Previous article: Joplin man faces additional charges of rape in ongoing investigation)
On April 26th, 2019, Jasper County deputies arrested him for statutory rape and statutory sodomy.
Since that time, authorities identified eight victims.
The Prosecutor’s Office charged Myers with eight counts of statutory sodomy, two counts of statutory rape, two counts of sexual trafficking of a child and one count of enticement of a child.
Court officials dropped some of those charges as part of Monday’s plea deal.
