Joplin R-8 Superintendent Dr. Melinda Moss announces retirement to staff
Longtime Joplin administration member Dr. Kerry Sachetta will take over in July
JOPLIN, Mo. — In a surprise announcement to staff late Tuesday, Joplin R-8 Superintendent Dr. Melinda Moss announces her retirement in an email:
Dear Eagle Nation,
It has been my supreme honor to serve as your superintendent. The move to Joplin has been a wonderful opportunity both professionally and personally. My husband Greg and I would like to thank the community for opening its arms to us and quickly assimilating us as one of your own. The warmth and love you’ve given is a treasure to us both.
After much thought and prayer, I have determined that it is time for me to retire effective September 30, 2022. I am honored that starting June 30, the Board has seen fit to retain my service for an extra three months in order to ease the transition of Dr. Kerry Sachetta as Superintendent of Joplin Schools.
Dr. Sachetta has been an integral part of our leadership team. He has the trust and confidence of Eagle Nation. I am thrilled to know that the good and important work of this district will continue under his leadership.
Just as Dr. Ridder did for me when I arrived in Joplin, I will do all in my power to see that the transition for Dr. Sachetta is as smooth and seamless as possible.
My best wishes to the Board, and all of Eagle Nation for continued success,
Melinda Moss, Ed. D.
Dr. Moss arrived in late 2016 coming from Northwest Arkansas as Superintendent at Harrison School District.
She will have spent five here in Joplin as she retires.
