Joplin program aims to help veterans battling mental health issues

JOPLIN, Mo. — A mental health crisis can happen to anyone at any time.

For many veterans, it’s common to isolate themselves and battle with thoughts by themselves without seeking help.

The Joplin-based Veteran Integration Program, also known as VIP, helps veterans in the area work with other community groups.

The program provides help for veterans with physical as well as mental health issues.

Roger Koch, a veteran and military liaison for VIP, says it’s important for veterans to get past the reluctance to ask for help when it’s needed.
