Joplin preps for COC opener against undefeated Webb City
The Eagles will try to knock off the defending district champs Tuesday night.
JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin High School softball team will open up its COC league schedule on Tuesday night, facing the undefeated Webb City Cardinals.
Joplin is 2-5 overall to start the season, but two of those losses have been by just one run. On the other side, Webb City is 6-0 to start the year and just won the Paige Neal/Christina Freeman Tournament in Joplin over the weekend.
Joplin usually has five or six underclassmen in their starting lineup. A win on Tuesday would certainly be a nice confidence boost for a young team trying to gain some traction in a tough COC league.
“Getting a win could set the stage for the rest of the season for us, with the young team that we have,” says head coach Manny Flores, “I think that would be a huge confidence boost and it would show the girls how much hard work they’ve put in and that it’s paying off.”
“That would mean everything,” says senior Reece Schroer, “We’ve been wanting to win for a long time against Webb City. I think that would just be one of the best moments of…my high school career.”
“We definitely have a younger feel to our team,” adds junior Madisyn Tracy, “We’re a lot more energetic and our attitudes and team bond this year is completely different than anything we’ve had before. We’re just super excited to show off what we’ve worked for.”
Tuesday’s game will begin at 4:30 PM at Joplin High School.
