Joplin Police, SWAT, respond to report of armed man in the Joplin-Webb City Industrial Park

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin Police Department and SWAT Team responded to a report of an armed person at a former Eagle Picher facility in the Joplin-Webb City Industrial Park.

UPDATE: The Joplin Police Department says the situation has ended. According to the Joplin Police Department, the subject sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound just before noon and was immediately rendered aid by officers and medics and rushed to a local hospital. Investigators are currently on scene conducting an investigation. At this time, JPD is not releasing the identity of the subject. No other individuals or officers were injured during the incident.


Around 8:30 this morning JPD responded to a person with a gun at 3220 Industrial Drive. JPD says the subject aimed the gun at his head, but did not shoot others, but did fire several shots, possibly into the air. Officials add that the subject did shoot himself, but did not shoot at any officers, and no officers fired any of their weapons.

Joplin SWAT and crisis negotiators were on scene to assist with deescalating the situation.
