UPDATE: Joplin police say dark-colored vehicle left area of fatal shooting

Authorities release the name of the deceased victim in a fatal shooting in Joplin. The Police Department is still withholding the name of the second victim.

JOPLIN, Mo. (Updated May 17) – Authorities say the suspect(s) in a fatal Joplin shooting allegedly fled the scene in a dark-colored passenger vehicle.

The Joplin Police Department released updated information today on Monday’s fatal shooting. One man died and emergency personnel took the second victim to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

On Monday, May 16, 2022, someone called the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center shortly after 6:00 pm. They reported gunshots near the intersection of 5th and Connor Avenue.

Officers responded. Meanwhile, dispatch learned that someone shot two people. They also learned the suspect(s) left in a dark-colored passenger vehicle.

Officers got there and found one adult male dead from apparent gunshot wounds. The second male suffered multiple gunshot wounds. A local hospital is treating him.

The Joplin Police Department states that they are withholding the names of the victims while they notify next of kin.

“Detectives with the Joplin Police Department responded to the scene and are actively working on the homicide investigation. If you have any information regarding the suspect(s) in this case, you are encouraged to contact the Joplin Police Department at (417) 623-3131.
