Joplin man faces additional charges of rape in ongoing investigation
JOPLIN, Mo. — The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office says to date, they’ve identified eight victims in a rape case against James Arthur Myers, 33, of Joplin.
The Sheriff’s Office has been working with the Joplin Police Department, Carthage Police Department, Jasper County Juvenile Office and the Missouri DSS Children’s Division on a months-long investigation into allegations against Myers.
On April 26th, 2019, deputies arrested Myers on two counts of statutory rape in the first degree and one count of statutory sodomy in the first degree.
Since that time, authorities continued to follow leads and have identified eight victims.
The Prosecutor’s Office has charged Myers with eight counts of statutory sodomy, two counts of statutory rape, two counts of sexual trafficking of a child and one count of enticement of a child.
Authorities say some offenses happened as far back as 2007.
Myers is currently in custody at the Jasper County Detention Center with a $100,000 cash bond.
