Joplin man enters plea deal in child molestation case

Jerry D. Harris, 50, Joplin, pleads guilty to a lesser charge in a 2017 child molestation case.

The Joplin Police Department and the Jasper County Children’s Division began investigating a case of possible child molestation on August 14th, 2017. Authorities say on August 6th, Harris had sexual contact with a female juvenile victim at his home.

Authorities arrested Harris on August 22nd, 2017 and the Jasper County Prosecutor’s office charged him with first degree child molestation.

As part of the plea bargain, Harris will be sentenced for a lesser charge of second degree child molestation on April 8th, 2019.
