Joplin man charged with child sex crimes
JASPER COUNTY, Mo. – The Jasper County Prosecutor files first-degree statutory sodomy and first-degree child molestation charges against a Joplin man.
Deputies began investigating John Anthony Shutters, 38, after a report of sexual abuse incidents involving two girls, ages 10 and 12. The alleged crimes happened in early February 2020.
On Feb. 21, 2020, authorities arrested Shutters and took him to the Jasper County Detention Center on a no-bond warrant.
According to court documents, there could be other victims in Mississippi. Detectives believe the defendant meets the Missouri definition of a predatory sexual offender because of the multiple alleged offenses.
Sheriff Randee Kaiser says the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be requested.
