Joplin man charged in armed robbery at Andy’s Frozen Custard

JOPLIN, Mo. – Joplin Police say a man tried to rob an ice cream shop, but left with nothing, and is now facing charges.

In a press release, JPD says Kevin Miller, a 24-year-old from Joplin went into Andy’s Frozen Custard on Rangeline on Thursday, April 22nd around 10 p.m. wearing a mask and passed the clerk a note demanding money.

Police say the clerk, recognized the robbery attempt and began calling the police.

That’s when Miller allegedly lunged at the clerk with a knife and ran off.

No one was hurt, and no money was taken.

Police say they found Miller a short time later near the crime scene.

He was taken into custody, but then police say he tried to run away from officers.

A K9 unit was used and the suspect was taken into custody again.

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney has charged Miller with 1st degree armed robbery, armed criminal action, and attempted escape from custody while under arrest for a felony.
