Joplin firefighters and police rescue residents from burning home

Both Joplin firefighters and police officers helped rescue people from a burning home, early Sunday morning.

A Joplin fire official told KOAM, the call went out around a half hour past midnight.

Police officers happened to be near the residence and saw visible flames and smoke coming from the building when they arrived. Firefighters showed up shortly after, and both departments were able to evacuate people from the house.

Fire officials say the home’s smoke detector alerted residents of the fire, which they believe was caused by discarded smoking materials. No injuries have been reported.
