Joplin council discusses formation of a youth council
Youth would advise city council
JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin council holds discussion for forming a youth council.
The plan was originally brought up last summer after a meeting with the National League of Cities, of which Joplin is a member.
Tonight’s meeting approved, on first reading an ordinance to establish the youth council.
The council would be composed of teenagers 15 to 18 years old.
City officials say that the youth in the community make up about 25% of the population and their voice goes mostly unheard.
Officials say they hope this council will change some of that.
