SCAMMON, KS – John Robert Thompson, 75, of rural Scammon, KS, died November 4, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Columbus, KS.
He was born May 29, 1945 in Pittsburg, KS the son of John and Evelyn Fourmont Thompson. He had been an area resident his entire life. He attended Southeast High School in Cherokee, KS graduating with the class of 1963.
Mr. Thompson married Judith A. Hollis on April 16, 1982 in Miami, OK and she survives at the home in rural Scammon, KS.
He had been a farmer and also worked as a pressman, prior to his retirement.
Membership was held in the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter and fishermen.
Survivors in addition to his wife Judy include one son Jeffrey Thompson and his wife Shelly of Columbus, Ohio and one daughter Denise Thompson Wilson of Humboldt, KS, a step daughter Tammy Brackney of Weir, KS, two stepsons Vincent Brackney of Joplin and Andy Brackney of Tallahassee, Florida, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Wesley Thompson.
Graveside services will be 2 pm Monday at the Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir, KS with the Rev. Aaron Williams, officiating. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery.
