John Owen “JO” Smith
March 2, 1935 - May 21, 2021
John Owen (J.O.) Smith went to be with his Lord and Savior May 21, 2021. He went peacefully at home. He was born March 2, 1935 to Jess and Weltha (Epperson) Smith, in Bluejacket, Oklahoma and lived in the area until he was 15 years old when he moved to Miami, Oklahoma. He married Glenna Jean Hale February 25, 1957. They were married 55 years before her death in 2012. He and Dianna (Mate) Weaver married January 6, 2014. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. J.O. as everyone in the Miami area knew him, was a hard worker and did many jobs to provide for his family. He worked at Bargin Charlies where he did TV and appliance repair. After that he did mostly truck driving, hauling mobile homes, heavy hauling, boats, produce, and lastly bulk mail for USPS. He not only worked hard, he also played hard. He liked to ride horses, 4-wheelers, side x sides, jet skis, boating, water skiing and camping with his family. The kids laughed because he always spent hours setting up the satellite TV, so he could watch his westerns at night when they were camping in the motorhome. J.O. is preceded in passing by his late wife Jeannie, parents Jess and Weltha Smith, sister Alice Spaulding, Brothers, Wilfred, Bob, and Charles.
Those left to share his memory are his wife Dianna (Mate) Smith of the home, sons David Smith and wife Cheri, Mark Smith and wife Vicki of Miami, Oklahoma. Daughter Melissa Arnall and husband Rick of Baxter Springs, Kansas, step-daughter Angela Leedy and husband Cliff, grandchildren Sara Bacon and husband Curtis of Prairie Village, Kansas, Austin Arnall of Oronogo, Missouri, Alex Arnall of Baxter Springs, Kansas, sister Nadine Hendee of Denver, Colorado , nieces Carol Grumbein and husband Ed, Claremore, Oklahoma, Vicki Barnett Marshall, San Diego, California, nephews James Barnett and wife Kira of Aurora, Colorado, Dr. Raymond Smith and wife Barbara of Edmond, Oklahoma Kevin Smith and wife Kathy of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, as well as several great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many many friends
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami on Tuesday, May 25, 2021.
Graveside service will be at 3:00 PM at Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Miami, Oklahoma.
