It is with deep sorrow and much love that parents Rick and Jill Eastridge of rural Ozawkie mourn the passing of John Douglas Baysinger Eastridge.

During the first days of October of this year, John fell in the bathroom of his apartment in Lawrence Kansas and never regained consciousness. He was born on October 9th, 1994. He would have been 26.

John spent his early childhood in Baxter Springs, Ks, and moved to Ozawkie when he was 6 years old.

John, a gentle giant, at a muscular 6’3” and 250+ pounds was active in sports and graduated from the Oskaloosa school district. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army, where he was assigned to the Heavy Machine Ops, and achieved the rank of S-4 .

After his honorable discharge from the Army, John was employed in a business that fabricated underground heavy steel cable in Lawrence.

He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his two little children Annsley Maria Eastridge and Serenity Lee Eastridge of rural Oskaloosa.

Surviving Eastridge siblings are: Jennifer Eastridge, Grant Eastridge, and Lukis Chenoweth . Surviving Basinger family members include: his biological father Jon Baysinger, his paternal aunt Karrie Cobb, and siblings: Jerry Cobb and Chris Young, his half siblings: Jayde Ashley, Boyd Ashley, and Taya Basinger. . He will also be missed ex-wife Caitlyn Eastridge.

John was preceded in death by his grandmother, Laura E. Gronyer Baysinger of Baxter Springs in 2011. John called Laura his “hero,” and spent some of his time with her and his aunt Karrie and brother Jerry in Baxter Springs while he was growing up in Ozawkie.

His parents, Rick and Jill sent him to his childhood home in Baxter Springs for cremation by Derfelt’s Funeral Home. He will be returned to Oskaloosa to be near his little girls following his visit to Baxter Springs.

John was a loyal and valued friend to many in the Oskaloosa and Ozawkie communities and his friends in the military and his work. For information about the Celebration of His Life local ceremony, please contact his friend Ryan Alexander or his brother Lukis Chenoweth.
