KOAM News Now is developing its meteorologist candidate pool in anticipation of future opportunities in our award-winning weather department. A trusted partner within the Four State Area (where Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma touch), KOAM is a vital resource for the community it serves. KOAM produces more than 30 hours of television news a week, and we embrace coverage through our news and weather mobile apps, social platforms, website, and streaming channel. The right candidate will collaborate with the Sky Watch Weather and digital teams to innovate our digital and social channels. We expect our coverage to meet consumers where they are and connect with them in convenient ways.


  • Forecast weather conditions a week out for Joplin and the 4-States area.
  • Prepare relevant weather maps and graphics to communicate the forecast and expected impacts.
  • Present the forecast during live broadcasts and recordings for digital platforms.
  • Communicate life-saving information to people during dangerous weather events.
  • Work with producers to craft daily weather plan in newscasts.
  • Coordinate with news team for coverage of severe weather events.
  • Participate in promotional and station events.

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a degree in meteorology and a passion for severe weather.
  • Skilled in analyzing weather observations to identify important atmospheric features.
  • Skilled in utilizing computer model data to produce an accurate forecast.
  • Possesses a knowledge of atmospheric dynamics.

Sports Anchor / Reporter

  • Write web stories, craft digital-exclusive content and post and go live on social media.
  • Produce and anchor sports reports for all platforms.
  • Write and deliver sports stories in a clear and concise manner.
  • Assist in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating sports programming.
  • Respond to breaking sports events and other urgent newsroom situations as required.

  • We need a polished anchor/reporter with an energetic personality, a creative storyteller, a social media rock star, and a drive to win.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when necessary.
  • Familiarity with the 4-States is a plus!
  • Strong social media and digital skills.
  • Able to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility to travel and work any shift.

J365 Multi-Media Journalist

Morgan Murphy Media is looking for recent journalism school graduates for Multi-Media Journalist openings in our newly developed J365 program. This is an intensive developmental program designed to provide the essential learning blocks for a successful career in journalism. Winning candidates will follow a monthly curriculum of training modules geared towards reporting and individual career development. This is a first job experience, unlike found in other newsrooms.
