Oswego, KS: Jimmy R. Addis age 89 of Oswego, passed away on the evening of Friday, July 23, 2021 at Oswego Health and Rehab.

Jimmy was born just southwest of Oswego on November 19, 1931 to the union of James Jackson Addis and Edythe Viola (Hearson) Addis. He served in the US Army Reserves, and was a lifetime resident of Oswego.

Mr. Addis worked in maintenance at Midwest Minerals in Parsons for 25 years, and also worked for Ruskin in Parsons as a mechanic.

While at Ruskin, he was a member of the Sheet Metal Worker International Local #2 and also served as union steward. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oswego, where he served as a trustee and sang in the Men’s Choir, and was also a member of the American Legion. During his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and also umpired Little League games and coached a girl’s travel softball team.

He was united in marriage with Freida “Darlene” Addis on March 22, 1952 in Huntsville, AR. They had recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary when she preceded him in death on June 7, 2017.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, James and Edythe Addis; one daughter, Stacey Clark; four brothers, Verl, Virgil, Jesse, and Roger Addis; and three sisters, Irene Peters, Emma Jean Collins, and Ailene Ruttgen.

Survivors include one son, James R. Addis (wife, Barbara) of Oswego; one daughter, Kathryn George (husband, Darrell) of Oswego; two sisters, Peggy Stapleton and Phyllis Stapleton, both of Oswego; 4 grandchildren, Jimmy George, Jason George, Trevor Addis, and Alyson Heflin; and 9 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Oswego Cemetery. Pastor Jim Irwin will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 6-7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Oswego.
