Joplin, MO – This Council Bill approves the Joplin Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (JCVB) Grant distribution for FY2015 special events, festivals and celebrations. Funding comes from a portion of the Occupational License Tax (JCVB Hotel/Motel Tax) monies collected resulting from Ordinance No 2000-048 as authorized by City of Joplin voters on November 7, 2000.

SUMMARY:

The purpose of this Grant Program is to assit qualified organizations with the promotion of tourism activities striving to directly increase hotel/motel occupancy and create positive image building for Joplin. Qualifying applicants must meet the following criteria:

— Non-for-profit and For profit organizations may apply;

–Events must be held between November 1, 2014 & October 31, 2015;

–Events must be held within 20 miles of Joplin city limits;

–Events must be open to the general public.

On July 15, 2014 the Joplin Convention & Vistors Bureau (JCVB) Advisory Board held a meeting to review and discuss applications submitted for the FY2015 Special Event Grant offered through the JCVB. Following the review, the Board listened to presentations from each of the thirteen applicants that included a 5-minute presentation and 5-minute question and answer period.

Funding requests from the thirteen applications totaled $221,400. Grant funds available for this program are capped at $100,000.

6) Wildcat Glades Conservation & Audubon Center’s Shoal Creek Water Festival; August 8, 2015; Requested = $16,295, Received = $4,000

7) Joplin Disc Golf Club’s 10th Annual Four States Open; September 18-20, 2015; Requested = $20,000, Received = $14,800
