January Kicks Off Girl Scout Cookie Sales
Joplin Girl Scouts take to the streets pre-selling cookies.
Girl Scout Caroline Hunter and her mom are going door to door taking pre-orders for cookies to be delivered in mid-February.
Troop leaders stress the need to be safe when knocking on doors, and to always travel in pairs with a parent supervising.
The organization has been selling cookies for nearly one hundred years because it teaches girls to be business savvy and builds character.
“For my daughter at least, i love the fact that it builds her self-confidence and ability to speak to people. I like that she has to do goal setting. The troop does goal setting. They decide you know where there money is going to be spent and how many boxes of cookies that means they are going to sell,” says Caroline’s mom Deanna.
For St. Mary’s troop 26258, the goal is for each girl to earn enough cookie credit, about 300 boxes, to go to camp Mintahama in the summer.
New this year, they will be able to expand their reach selling cookies online.
