Janko Kalan and Kannon Keller sign to play football at Pittsburg State University

The St. Mary's Colgan seniors will continue their football careers, together, as Gorillas.

St. Mary’s Colgan seniors Janko Kalan and Kannon Keller sign letters of intent to continue their football careers at Pittsburg State University.

“It’s crazy to think about watching games when I was little and going through the gorilla walk and high fiving all the players. Now I get to be that guy,” Keller says of his excitement to be a Gorilla. “I can’t fathom getting to walk out to “Welcome to the Jungle.” It’s going to be so much fun.”

Like Keller, Kalan has also grown up in a household loyal to PSU.

“It’s always been home for me,” Kalan says.

PSU head football coach, Brian Wright, is happy to welcome athletes that grew up in the area.

“It’s critical to get the good local talent here. Those kids have been dreaming about Pittsburg State for a long time,” Wright says. “They want to become really good football players and good representatives of this program and they’re going to give everything they have.”

Kalan and Keller have been playing football together since eighth grade. They will continue as teammates, now suited up in crimson and gold.

“Playing with Janko is going to be awesome. I can still go to him with anything. He’s going to be a great guy to have by my side,” Keller says.

“He’s one of my best friends, so it will be a lot of fun,” Kalan adds.

Both athletes view PSU’s football program as an opportunity to continue to improve and excel in their sport. Coach Wright says that mindset is exactly what he wants from his players.
