Irene Bolen

Irene Bolen, 90, of Parsons, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the Elmhaven Nursing Home in Parsons.

Mabel Irene Bolen was born March 2, 1931, at Liberty, to Steve C. and Pearl M. (Smith) Burlingame. She grew up around the Timber Hill and Dennis areas and attended elementary school at Mt. Triumph and Timber Hill Schools. She graduated from Dennis High School in 1949.

Irene and Martin A. Bolen were married at Cherryvale on October 14, 1950. He preceded her in death on January 27, 2000.
She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Parsons. She was employed at the Lee Manufacturing Co. in Cherryvale from July 1951 to August 1952 and at the Hallmark Card plant in Parsons from August 1952 to June 1957. In June of 1957, she began a lengthy career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Parsons that lasted until her retirement in April of 1983.

Irene enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and reading. She is survived by two sisters, LaDonna Reedy of Neodesha and Irma Knedgen of Girard, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded by her parents, Steve and Pearl Burlingame, and two sisters, Naydene Walters and Lorene Knedgen.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Harmony Grove Cemetery southwest of Dennis.
