Inventor of Springfield-style Cashew Chicken passes away at 99
SPRINGFIELD, Mo – David Leong, the inventor of Springfield-style Cashew Chicken, passes away at the age of 99.
Leong escaped from China for American citizenship after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
He enlisted in the Army in 1942, serving as a cook in the Fourth Wing that stormed Omaha beach.
Leong then moved to Springfield, Missouri in the 1950’s where he opened Leong’s Teahouse in 1963.
