LATEST: Remains found in Crawford County identified, victim of homicide

UPDATE: According to Sheriff Danny Smith, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a call about possible decomposed human remains on Monday, August 10th.

Crawford County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives responded to the call north of K-126 on 80th Street in rural western Crawford County.

The remains were identified as human.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was informed of the remains and their Crime Scene Response Team processed the scene.

The remains have yet to be identified and the cause of death is currently unknown at this time.

The remains were transported to Frontier Forensics in Kansas City for Examination.

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Kan. – A southeast Kansas resident discovers human remains in rural Crawford County.

According to Sheriff Danny Smith, a person walking this morning, Aug. 10, 2020, found the remains along the road near Highway 126 and S. 80th St. near McCune.

Smith told KOAM they called the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to help in the investigation. The KBI is sending a pathologist to assist.

The Sheriff believes the remains have been there for a while.
