Huge demand at SEK Multi-County Health Department recovery drive
The Bourbon County, Kansas Health Department’s parking lot was packed with cars on Thursday, as people came to pick up care packages filled with food and supplies to help them survive during the pandemic.
The event, put on by the SEK Multi-County Health Department, was scheduled to run from 1 PM to 5 PM, with the first 100 cars receiving care packages.
But health department officials say the turnout was so big, that they ran out of care packages before 2 PM.
A Fort Scott resident tells KOAM that she arrived shortly after the food ran out, and was surprised it didn’t last passed the first hour.
“My neighbor next door came to me just a minute ago and told me to come down here. And so I came as quick as I could, and then they said they had just run out because people were lined up,” said Lana, a retired Fort Scott resident.
The SEK Mutli-County Health Department says they’ll have another recovery drive in the near future but have yet to determine a date.
