Homemade explosive device found in stolen vehicle in Jasper County

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. – Authorities find a homemade explosive device while investigating a suspicious vehicle in southwest Missouri.

On April 27, 2020, around 1:02 p.m., Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were called to 422 E. Fountain Rd in Joplin in reference to a suspicious vehicle.

When they got there, deputies found a white Ford explorer with no license plates parked in the roadway. Deputies then discovered the vehicle was stolen from Wichita Kansas. As they were searching the vehicle, they found a homemade explosive device inside the vehicle.

Authorities secured the area and the bomb squad from Springfield Fire Department was contacted to come make the device safe. The bond squad removed the device from the vehicle and took it to a safe location nearby and detonated it.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the incident. They have not arrested anyone at this time.
