Residents in the Murphysburg district cool off with a sweet treat from the new group called Joplin Historical Neighborhoods.

The group is restoring the historical Schifferdecker and Zellecken homes.

People were invited to have a free snow cone and kids also got “hard” hats.

Brad Belk, the Preservation Director for Joplin Historical Neighborhoods, says this is his way of thanking his neighbors for patience during the ongoing construction for the past several months.

“With this construction site being quite busy during most of the days, we thought we’d call a truce to that and invite our neighbors from Murphsyburg here today,” said Belk.

The exterior work is expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting, and the interior of the homes should be finished by 2020.
