Head-on crash claims life of a southeast Kansas woman
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan. – Authorities say Lois A. McCoy, 84, of Columbus, Kansas has lost her life after a head-on crash in Cherokee County.
On January 8, 2020, around 11:40 a.m., a semi, driving west on U400, tried to pass another semi with “insufficient clearance,” according to the Kansas State Highway Patrol.
While passing, the semi hit a car head-on.
EMS took the driver of the car, Lois McCoy, to Freeman Hospital where she died. A passenger of the car, Darline L. Mitchell, 84, of Columbus, suffered “suspected serious injury” and was taken to Mercy Hospital.
The semi driver was not injured.
